Health Care for All Organizing Internships  

The Campaign for New York Health is a statewide campaign dedicated to passing and implementing legislation for universal health care in New York State. Interns would work with staff of Physicians for a National Health Program - NY Metro, a founding member of the Campaign for New York Health, and Campaign for New York Health grassroots volunteer organizers

Location: Statewide, Rochester (Metro Justice) and Syracuse. Remote interns accepted.

Health Care for All Community Outreach and Engagement Internship The intern would work alongside the Upstate Organizer and the local grassroots organizing committee to engage community members about experiences accessing health care using the Health Rights and Health Access Survey. The intern will gain experience in community outreach` volunteer recruitment, and grassroots advocacy.

Duties will include activities such as:

  • One on one outreach using the Health Access Survey at community settings (health clinics, financial institutions, food pantries, community centers) and via phone to Campaign for NY Health supporters;
  • Working with community members to submit written testimonials about their health care access experiences;
  • Working with the campaign team to create written, visual, and video testimonials using Canva and Onstack
  • Work with the campaign team to recruit community members to participate in local events
  • Working with the local campaign team to support leadership development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Interest or experience in grassroots advocacy
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on time bound projects
  • Proficiency in Google Drive
  • Experience with or willingness to learn to use Canva or other graphic design software

Health Care for All Upstate Business Engagement Internship The intern would work alongside the Upstate Organizer and local grassroots organizing committees to document the challenges local business owners face accessing healthcare for themselves, their families, and their employees as well as their opinions on health care reforms before the New York State legislature. The intern will gain experience in grassroots advocacy, strengthen their communication skills, and work with the campaign team to produce visual materials to support the Business for New York Health campaign.

Duties will include a mix for the following activities:

  • Outreach in person and via email to community business owners using the Business for New York Health outreach tool kit. Intern will work with supervisor to set outreach goals.
  • Engaging existing Businesses for New York Health to develop written and visual testimonials and case studies about their experiences accessing healthcare.
  • Creating written, visual, and video materials using Canva and Onstack apps.


Qualifications:

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Interest or experience in grassroots progressive advocacy.
  • Interest in human rights and social rights.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on time bound projects.
  • Proficiency in Google Drive.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn to use Canva or other graphic design software
